Welcome to Black Military Wives, LLC

Hi! I’m Jamilah! I’ve been a Navy wife since 2006, after earning my Masters in Marriage & Family Therapy from San Diego State University. After relocating to other areas, I longed for a sense of community and resources–hence, I created Black Military wives! The goal of Black Military Wives (B.M.W.) is to create relationships between women who share similar cultural and family experiences, in relation to the military. B.M.W. also has a Facebook Group, which was established in January, 2016. The group now has more than 8,000 members–even though it’s a “secret” group! At the time of its creations, there wasn’t any other worldwide “Black Military Wives…” anything! Now, there are so many resources available to our community! Together, we are making a remarkable difference in building friendships and sharing resources between sisters all over the world, and I’m so thankful to be apart of this amazing sisterhood.

S.I.Q. Is Not An Option!

I love it when my husband returns home, from being in such close quarters with all of those lovely germs! A few days after reuniting with my handsome life-partner, from being on a Naval ship for almost two months, he didn’t do anything besides lie on the couch. Truth be told, he would be stuck to the

Adults Becoming Grownups

I wonder how many arguments or friendship breakups would occur if people had those SAME conversations face-to-face? No texting, no Facebook, and no interactions on social media at all…What if you had to look that person in the face and converse without having the option to “block,” ignore,” or “delete before reading?” I had a wonderful conversation with another

The Independent Dependent

There is so much diversity among the wives of service-members.  Yes, even among Black Military Wives (B.M.W.)!  We can be stationed at the same base, go to the same beauty salon, send our children to the same schools…and yet, we may differ in our beliefs regarding what’s best for our families.  There are some employed wives who resent the notion of

Our Mission

There’s nothing like having healthy, loving, supportive sisterhoods between women, especially Black women, who might find it difficult to meet and bond with others while moving all over the world.  In 2009, I was living in an unfamiliar place without family or friends nearby, and I really longed for a support system. After being married to

Black Military Love

As I prepared to celebrate my ten year wedding anniversary this weekend, I excitedly got on the internet to look up some mushy love quotes for military couples. I planned on sharing the images on Facebook, as a tribute to my husband this weekend. Yep–I’m an annoying, hopeless romantic who goes over & beyond to show her man how much he’s
